BC Calc conducts an analysis of notched top flange situations, and for conditions with stress levels below reinforced joist capacities, provides a repair detail utilizing 2x6 lumber or Versa-Lam reinforcement. This detail is shown on the member’s design report. This functionality may be accessed at Repairs/Flange Notches, after a joist and the design information has been entered for either a Joist or Rafter member. For conditions that exceed the program’s functionality, please submit the joist design and notch information to Boise Cascade EWP Engineering at https://engsupport.bc.com/hc/en-us.
